How can rehabilitation support life after stroke?

Stroke can affect movement, communication and other functions. Rehabilitation may involve physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy according to need. A physiotherapy clinic should not be assumed to provide all of these disciplines.

How we approach your care

  1. Share discharge information, the treating team’s advice and the activities that currently require help.

  2. Discuss suitability and individual movement or functional rehabilitation goals.

  3. Review progress and coordinate or refer when needs go beyond the clinic’s physiotherapy scope.

Sessions, progress and realistic expectations

Recovery differs considerably between people and can take months or longer. The clinic does not promise complete recovery, walking by a fixed date or a set number of sessions. Goals and follow-up should reflect the individual’s condition and response.

Typical physiotherapy appointments last around 60 minutes, depending on individual needs. Ask about the proposed treatment time and review schedule for this service. Your total course is decided after assessment.

When to seek medical help

New facial drooping, arm weakness or speech difficulty is an emergency, even after a previous stroke and even if symptoms pass. Seek emergency medical help immediately; a rehabilitation appointment is not acute stroke treatment.

This is general information, not an individual diagnosis or a complete list of warning signs. Emergency symptoms need medical care, not a routine appointment.

Your questions, answered

When should rehabilitation start after a stroke?

Follow the hospital or specialist team’s advice and share it when arranging care. Timing and setting should fit medical needs.

Can physiotherapy guarantee walking again?

No. Recovery and functional goals vary. Ask what is realistic to assess and review for the individual.

Does this include speech therapy?

Speech therapy has not been confirmed as a clinic service. Discuss referral to the appropriate professional if needed.

Can we ask about help with everyday movement?

Yes. Explain which activities are difficult and what assistance is currently required when discussing assessment.

Can I ask about a home visit after a stroke?

Home physiotherapy visits are available, mainly in Okhla and nearby areas. Visits to other locations can be discussed with the clinic. Timings and suitability are agreed with each patient.

What can movement rehabilitation involve after stroke?

Depending on ability and the rehabilitation plan, practice may involve reaching and handling objects, standing from a chair, walking or stairs. The treating team selects tasks and assistance; these examples are not a home exercise prescription.
